At Davis Family Chiropractic, many of our patients visit us for the first time seeking back pain treatment. Rather than masking your pain with prescription medication or performing invasive surgery, our chiropractor will identify and address the root cause of your back pain. Read on to learn more about what causes back pain and how we treat it.
Causes of Back Pain
There are many potential causes of back pain. While poor posture and age can lead to back pain, there are several other causes.
Acute Injury
If you’re an athlete or have recently been in an accident, pain is the body’s normal response to telling you there’s something wrong. Chiropractic care may be just the answer you need to diagnose the problem, relieve that initial pain, and prevent it from causing problems in the future.
Nerve Issues
Damaged nerves can cause intense back pain. Nerve issues can be a result of injury, or they can accumulate over time, such as with old age or degradation.
Muscle or Connective Tissue Sprain
Your back is responsible for holding everything up at its core, so all kinds of things can overload the system. Poor form while exercising, a misstep on the sidewalk, or even carrying heavy loads for too long can overstretch and overwork these tissues, causing back pain.
Poor Alignment of the Hips or Spine
Tightness in some areas and weakness in others can pull your joints out of their natural alignment. Over time, this causes soreness and back pain. Many people with poor alignment experience low back pain from compression of the sciatic nerve.
Disc Herniation
Your spine is a series of bones stacked on top of soft tissue that absorbs shock, facilitates fluid motion, and more. degenerative disc disease causes these disk-shaped cushions to thin out so much that it results in bone-to-bone contact. When these cushions between your vertebrae are damaged, it places immense pressure directly on your nerves. Our chiropractor uses spinal decompression to gently stretch your spine, creating space between the vertebrae. This affords these compressed or damaged discs space to heal and relieves some of the pressure on your nerves.
